Deportes Iquique advanced to the second round of the Copa Libertadores after beating Leon 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday.

Iquique, who came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at Leon last week, secured the same result in the second leg.

Yovanny Arrechea put Leon in front in the 47th minute before captain Rodrigo Diaz restored parity for the Chilean club with a penalty 11 minutes later.

Neither side was able to break the deadlock in regulation time, forcing the contest into the 84th shootout in Copa Libertadores history.

Goalkeeper Rodrigo Naranjo proved the difference for Iquique in the shootout with two telling saves before Diaz found the net again to secure the victory.

Iquique will take on Argentina’s Velez Sarsfield, Uruguay’s Penarol and Ecuador’s Emelec in Group 4 of the second round.

Meanwhile, Tigre brushed aside Deportivo Anzoategui 5-1 on aggregate following a 3-0 win away from home in the second leg.

Ruben Botta opened the scoring for Tigre in the eighth minute before second-half goals from Federico Santander and Ezequiel Maggiolo put the result beyond doubt for the Argentinean club.

Tigre will meet Peru’s Sporting Cristal, Paraguay’s Libertad and Brazil’s Palmeiras in Group 2 of the second round.
